The Unexpectant

As I sit at my desk here, I am looking at the weather and the sky. By the look of things, it seems indecisive to me. One portion of the sky appears blue and sunny, and the other side appears to have the makings of gloom and doom. The makings of an unexpected storm. It reminds me of life and how life can appear to be going along relatively well, and then the unexpectant happens without warning. Do you ever have days like this? Do you react or respond? What happens to your attitude?

The unexpected happens all the time, only varyingly in intensity. Sometimes it can change our whole day or even our whole life in just a moment of time. Then, on the other hand, the unexpectant doesn't have to be a bad experience. Things can change for the better as well as the challenging, but change will always happen, and we need to have a plan of action to deal with it beforehand. I learned this years ago so that I would not be thrown off guard become a victim.

So the question is, do you have a plan, and do you react or respond when this unexpected event of life happens? I believe our Father God wants us to learn to have a plan of action. The Bible tells us that we are more than conquerors and that would indicate that we must conquer something to have victory.

To react to an unexpected event of life mean we react in emotion, and that is to be expected. However, if we stay in the emotion, we can be swallowed up by it and become a victim. That is not a conqueror.

To respond to the unexpected life event means we have momentary emotions but then the real question becomes, "What is the Lord doing in the midst of this event"? We must begin this spiritual discipline to get our focus off the problem and onto the solution. We must develop this plan of action to partner with the Lord to move thru this unexpected event, positive or negative. We need to begin to understand that none of this caught our Lord by surprise. Move from reacting to responding as soon as you can so, even in the middle of all that is happening we become victorious. This is partnering with God, doing our part to initiate a solution. I do realize this seems very simple, and it is in a way. You will feel loss in some circumstances and grieve what was and is no more. Even good things. Here are a few scriptures that will help the process:

*Romans 8:37 "Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us".

*1 Corinthians 10:13 "No temptation (unexpected life event) has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but

God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation (life event) will

also make the way of escape 9through it), that you may be able to bear it."

*1 John 5:4 "For whatever is born of God (Believer in Christ) overcomes (has victory in) the world. and this is the victory that has overcome the world - our Faith (in Christ Jesus)."

*1 Corinthians 15:57 "But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ."

*John 16:33 "I have said these things to you that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation.

but take heart; I have overcome the world."

*Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things though Christ Jesus who strengthen me."

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, teach me the way I should go. Teach me to have a plan, and to be mindful that you will help me navigate through all unexpected life events and to be a conqueror through all. I want to understand how to master my emotions to respond instead of reacting. As I study these scriptures, please make them real to me and to know that you will always take me through these challenges of life, positive or negative. Thank you, Lord, for loving me, I ask you to come into my life, to teach and to guide me. To wash away all that has separated me from you. I accept you as the Lord and Savior of my life.

Amen
